Bodegas Launa sigue consolidándose en el mercado americano. Los excelentes resultados obtenidos en la International WineCellar de Stephen Tanzer dan por muy bueno la hoja de ruta que esta bodega familiar gestionada por los hermanos Unzalu se ha marcado en la consecución de vinos de alta calidad. Las 58 hectáreas sobre las que trabaja la bodega acompañado de tecnología de última generación y la apuesta por la crianza en barricas nuevas están dando sus frutos. Fruta, juventud e integración de la crianza en los vinos son la clave del resultado. Un brindis por Launa!!
2010 Bodegas Launa Rioja Crianza (90
points)
($17) (90% tempranillo and 10% mazuelo; aged for 15 months in 2-year-old
American oak barrels): Bright violet color. Sexy dark berry preserve and floral
aromas are lifted by a spicy nuance. Sappy, incisive and spicy, offering bright
black rasperry and cinnamon flavors and a deeper note of sweet vanilla. Soft
tannins shape to the clinging finish.
2010 Bodegas Launa Ikunus Rioja (92
points)
($40) (100% tempranillo; went through malo in new French oak, where it was then
aged for another 18 months): Vivir ruby-red. Sexy aromas of black raspberry,
vanilla and Asian spices, plus a subtle floral character. Taut red fruit flavors
stretch out with air and show a deeper, sweeter cherry quality, with finegrained
tannins adding support. Shows very good clarity on the gently tannic finish,
with the cherry and floral notes repeating.

Rioja Crianza (91 points)
($22) (100% tempranillo; aged for 15 months in new French and American oak):
Bright violet color. Seductively perfumed scents of blackberry, boysenberry,
fresh flowers and incense. At once deep and lively, offering sweet dark berry
flavors and a sexy floral pastille quality. Silky tannins build with air and add
grip to the sweet, persistent finish.

Rioja Crianza (91 points)
($30) (80% tempranillo, 10% graciano and 10% garnacha): Glass-staining ruby.
Smoky dark berry and floral aromas show a spicy quality and a note of mocha.
Densely packed black and blue fruit flavors display very good energy and pick up
a sexy spicecake nuance with air. Closes on a sweet vanilla note, with supple
tannins and building smokiness.
2009 Bodegas Launa Teo's Rioja (93
points)
($70) (all tempranillo, from a high-altitude, limestone-rich plot of vines that
is reportedly almost 90 years old; malo in new French oak, followed by aging for
18 months in the same vessels): Vivid ruby-red. Explosively perfumed aromas of
red frui liqueur, potpourri, incense and smoky minerals, with vanilla and
licorice notes adding nuance. Spicy, focused and pure, offering palate-staining
raspberry and cherry-cola flavors and suggestions of rose pastille and allspice.
Silky tannins give shape to the persistent finish, which features smooth tannins
and a touch of blood orange.
